You probably know Dreame as the company that makes robot vacuums. But for some reason, they just decided to get into the camera game.
They just announced the Leaptic Cube, and honestly? The specs are kind of insane for the price.
Here is what you need to know before you buy one.
The Specs at a Glance:
-
Resolution: It shoots 8K at 30fps. (That is higher than the newest GoPro).
-
Price: It costs around $440.
-
Design: It’s modular and magnetic, very similar to the DJI Action 2.
-
Color: It shoots in 10-bit P-Log (This is a big deal for color grading).
The Good News: 10-Bit Color Most cheap action cameras look terrible when you try to color grade them. The footage falls apart. But because the Leaptic Cube shoots in 10-bit log, you can actually make the footage look professional in Premiere or DaVinci Resolve.
The Bad News: Do You Really Need 8K? Here is the reality for editors: Editing 8K footage is a nightmare. Unless you have a super powerful computer, your timeline is going to lag. You will almost definitely need to make proxies to edit this footage smoothly.
Also, 8K files are massive. You are going to run out of hard drive space very fast.
The Verdict: If you want a cheap camera that beats the GoPro on resolution, this is interesting. But be warned: just because it shoots 8K doesn't mean it's better.
The stabilization might not be as good as GoPro or DJI, but for $440? It might be worth testing out as a "crash cam."
What do you think? Are you trusting a vacuum company with your footage?
